These days, when the world seems to be hard to control, walking can make you feel peaceful. It gives you a chance to slow down, to relax and to appreciate yourself and your life in general. It helps you slow down enough to breathe deeply, to calm your thoughts, and to research the natural world filled with wonders. And yes, to love yourself more.
Try to spend one day for a long travel on foot—far from the requirements of work and family. First, choose a date and mark it as your “relaxing day”. Next, choose a place that you want to visit on foot. If you enjoy being out in nature, head to a wide and open place. Try to choose a place that’s no more than 15 minutes from your home. You want to spend your time walking, not driving.
Walk at an easy speed so you can walk longer and farther. If you normally walk two miles a day, go for four to six miles. Wear comfortable clothes. If it’s warm, wear a hat to protect your face. And don’t forget your sunglasses— not only to protect your eyes but also to give you a sense of privacy while you walk.
Before you go out, get up early so you can spend a few minutes relaxing. Relaxing is something few people spend in their spare time, but it leaves you feeling much lighter and less annoyed. Read something relaxing before you leave home, and it’ll put you in a different condition of mind. And, of course, eat a healthy breakfast and drink plenty of water. Then pick up your backpack and head out. And enjoy yourself.
小題1:From the passage, we can control our feeling by______.
A.running a long wayB.having a long walk
C.talking with best friendsD.communicating with parents
小題2:Walking can help you EXCEPT _______.
A.making you calmB.feeling more excited
C.thinking things calmlyD.breathing deeply
小題3:What can you do to prepare if you plan to hike according to the passage?

C.Wear comfortable clothesD.Take enough food and water
小題4:Before you go out for a walk, you should _______.
A.eat a healthy breakfast.B.drink plenty of water.
C.get up early and relax yourself.D.all above.
小題5:From the passage, we can know________.
A.the world is very peaceful now
B.we can have a walk to relax ourselves during busy days
C.when we want to have a long walk, we should let others drive a car
D.we should have a long hike every day

Can we make animals work for us? Some scientists think that we can teach animals to do a lot of things for the people. They say that in a farm or on TV, you may see elephants, monkeys, dogs or some other animals doing a lot of things. If you watch carefully, you may find those animals are always given a little food to eat after they have done something. Scientists say that people can teach many different animals to do some of the easy work if they know they will get something to eat.
We all know elephants can carry large logs, and dogs can look after houses. And we can even teach animals to work in factories. In America, for example, people have used apes to help make cars, and scientists think that those large monkeys may, one day, drive trains. Now people are trying to get them to do something just like man.

Lots of women don’t have breakfast and they have a lot of different excuses for that. Some say they don’t have time, some think they’re losing weight, and others just don’t like breakfast.
But the fact is that eating in the morning is very important, especially when you’re trying to lose weight. Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all. If your pizza is added with vegetables, that’ll be better.
Breakfast is one kind of meal that one should never miss; even one is trying to lose weight.
Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from eating too much later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that those who don’t have breakfast have a bigger chance of getting fat than those who have a morning meal every day.
So if you want to lose weight, you should eat something in the morning. Anything is OK. Having only coffee or orange juice or having no breakfast does harm to your health.
I have a good idea here. I sometimes eat last night’s leftovers for breakfast. It may sound crazy, but it really works for me! I find if I tell myself, “You can eat them tomorrow.” I will put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it yourself. You may save some pre-bedtime calories. Keep it and see how healthy you will be!
小題1: What kind of the following food is the best breakfast?
A.Some coffee.B.Some orange juice.
C.A pizza with some vegetables.D.A piece o bread.
小題2:The word “leftovers” probably means “________”.

B.People should eat a lot of food in the evening.
C.Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast.
D.People who don’t have breakfast are easy to lose weight.

As prices and building costs keep rising, “the do-it-yourself”(DIY)trend(趨勢) in the US continues to grow.
“We needed furniture for our living room,” says John Kose, “and we didn’t have enough money to buy it.” So we decided to try making a few tables and chairs. John got married six months ago, and like many young people these days, they are struggling (努力)to make a home when the cost of living is very high. 任務型閱讀 閱讀下面短文,根據短文內容,完成下列各題。(共5小題,計10分)
Language is always changing and developing. This isn’t a bad thing. If English hadn’t changed for a long time, we won’t have words to describe telephones, washing machines, computers or some other new things.
Language changes for several reasons. First, it changes because the needs of its speaker change. New technologies, new products, and new experiences need new words to express them clearly. Another reason for change is that different people have different language experiences. People use different sets of words and expressions, because they have different ages, jobs, education levels(水平) and so on.
How does language develop then? On the one hand, many of the languages changes begin with young people. When young people communicate with others of their own age, their language grows in grammar, words and expressions that are different from the older people’s. Some have a short lifetime but others can influence the language for long. On the other hand, we get new words in many different ways. We borrow them from other languages, we create them by making words shorter or combining words and we make them out of proper names.
Languages that don’t change over time are considered dead languages. The fact that English changes so much shows that it is alive and well.
小題1:What does the writer think of the change and development of language?
He thinks it is                       .
小題2:Why do people use different sets of words and expressions according to the passage?
Because their          and education levels are different.
小題3:How many reasons for language change are mentioned in this passage?
The writer mentions          reasons.
小題4:How do young people help develop language?
They do it when they                  others of their own age.
小題5: What is considered a dead language according to the passage?
The one that                   over time is considered a dead language.
