People often hear bad news on TV, the “Touching China” award on Tuesday sends a different message. The award honors(給...以榮譽) ten of China’s role models(道德模范) in 2012. The award winners are carefully selected(推選) by people. The “Touching China” award has been held every year since 2003.
Luo Yang is one of the ten role models. He is the late Commander in chief(前總指揮官) of the program for developing the J-15 fighter(殲-15戰斗機). He died from overwork. BEIJING—Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has visited the "left-behind"(留守) children whose parents are working in cities before Children's Day.
During a visit to northwest China's Shanxi Province, Wen visited the home of Yang Saike, a primary school boy in a village of Xingping City. Yang, whose parents were working in Fujian, thousands of kilometers away, was cared for by his grandparents. His parents fail to go home even once a year. A recently study found people’s lives are made shorter in North China. It is showed the life expectancy(平均壽命) had been cut down by 5.5 years there.
