Microsoft has stopped providing service for Windows XP since April 8. The computers that use the XP system are not as safe as before.
The "demise" of Windows XP will have the greatest influence on China because it has about 210 million XP users, who make up about 70.percent of the PC market in the world. Microsoft's decision to "kill" Windows XP, a product with hundreds of millions of users, has a certain purpose to show its strong position in the operating system market.

At the same time, the "death" of XP has created opportunities for China's IT companies to grow and develop.
In fact, shortly after Microsoft announced the “demise” of XP,some Chinese IT security(安全)providers were willing to offer safe solutions for XP users who do not change into a new system.
Information security is crucial for the IT companies, and the key to safeguarding information is the core technology, which very much depends on innovation(革新).
Although China has some well-known IT companies, it still does not have the core technology to develop an operating system. Many people are always complaining about and criticizing.  Therefore, only by having information technology and a policy that encourages innovation can China break the monopoly(壟斷)of international IT giants and protect the internet security.
From the first paragraph of the passage, we know Microsoft has __________ __________ providing service for Windows XP.
According to the passage, there are about__________ __________XP users in the world.
According to the passage, how can China break the monopoly of international IT giants and protect the internet security?
What is the main idea of the passage?
_______________________________________________________________________________

小題1:given up
小題2:300 million
小題3:Only by having information technology and policy that encourages innovation.
5:The “demise” of Windows XP has influenced China/ Chinese IT companies.

Microsoft has stopped providing service for Windows XP since April
The "demise" of Windows XP will have the greatest influence on China because it has about 210 million XP users, who make up about 70.percent of the PC market in the world可知,在中國,Windows XP的用戶有2億1千萬,占世界市場的70%,由此我們可以計算,在世界上Windows XP的用戶是大約3億。
Therefore, only by having information technology and a policy that encourages innovation can China break the monopoly(壟斷)of international IT giants and protect the internet security可知,只有通過擁有信息技術和鼓勵革新中國才能打破IT巨頭的壟斷,保護互聯網的安全。
之后不久;be willing to do sth.愿意去做某事;句中who do not change into a new system 是一個定語從句,修飾名詞XP users。

Does your school have any problems with discipline(紀律)? What happens when students step out of line?
Here are some examples of bad behaviour:
? Playing truant(逃學) (missing school without permission from parents).
? Stealing, smoking, hitting, swearing, running, kissing.
? Cheating on exams.
? Calling a teacher or another pupil a bad name.
? Not doing homework.
? Not listening or not paying attention in lessons.
? Wearing unsuitable clothes.
Here are some of the ways that UK school children can be punished:
? Exclusion(開除): a pupil is asked to leave the school and not come back. The pupil has to find a new school or a different method of education.
? Suspension(停課): a pupil cannot enter the building or attend lessons until the school has a meeting about their situation. Suspension can last from one to 45 days. The pupil is usually given work to do at home with a special teacher.
? Detention(拘留): a pupil is asked to stay after school and work for 30-60 minutes before they can leave.
? Lines: a pupil has to write a sentence many times (e.g. 100 or more) on a sheet of paper, e.g. “I must not shout in class.”
Freya MacDonald, a 15-year-old pupil from Scotland, _________when she refused to accept her school’s punishment. Her family says that she was given 11 detentions for trivial things such as having fizzy drinks in class and coming into school through a fire door.
Freya says that repeated detentions ruined her right to an education under Scottish law and made it difficult for her to learn. So she refused to return until the school respected her civil rights. She wants the headmaster and her teachers to sign a letter to promise this. Hundreds of schools in Scotland were told not to use detention as a punishment because of her legal action.
Many UK schools now give parents a home&school contract(契約,合同), explaining their discipline and rules. Parents must sign this document to agree that they accept the school’s rules and discipline and that they are responsible for their child’s behaviour.

ARE you creative, shy, outgoing? Our personalities reveal a lot about who we are. But what’s surprising is that our personality can also say something about our health. That’s according to researchers at Duke University, US.
During an experiment on 1,000 people, scientists assessed (評定) their personalities in two ways: by asking someone they knew, such as a family member or friend; then by asking someone they had just met, such as a nurse. The study found that those who were careful at age 26 were in better health after 12 years.?
Being careful means that people tend to have a lot of self-control, and are less likely to smoke, the scientists said. Careful people are also more likely to have an active lifestyle and healthy diet.
From those who were least careful, 45 percent developed health problems by the age of 38. Such health issues included gum disease and high blood pressure (高血壓). To compare, only 18 percent of careful people went on to develop health problems.
Another positive personality was called “openness to experience”, meaning curious and imaginative. People who have more of this personality have higher IQ scores. So they’d be more likely to know how to find medical help to prevent disease.
According to the report, if doctors assessed our personalities, it could help doctors to find which young adults need advice on how to live a healthy lifestyle. What’s surprising is that stress didn’t play a big part on a person’s health. Even though stress and anxiety (焦慮) are usually linked to bad health.
But can a doctor who knows our personality really improve our health? Or should doctors be kept away from knowing something so personal?
小題1:Which personality type may be better for our health, according to the research?

B.love to ask the doctor for advice
C.are likely to have a healthy lifestyle
D.may have high blood pressure when they’re older
小題3:Where can you probably read the article?
A.Newspaper. B.Science fiction book.
C.Research paper.D.Travel guide.
小題4:What is the main idea of the article?
A.People can change their personality type.
B.Scientists have found two different personality types.

Hundreds of years ago, life was much harder than it is today. People didn’t have modern machines. There were no modern machines, either. Life today has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. Water pollution has made our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills fish and affects(影響) our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us talk louder and louder. Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution. It affects every living thing in the world.
The world is not only hungry, but it is also thirsty for water. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid(避免) a serious worldwide water shortage later on. We all have to learn how to stop wasting our valuable water. One of the first steps is to develop ways of reusing it. But even if we purified(凈化) and reused the water, we still would not have enough. All we’d have to do is to make use of the vast reserves(儲備) of sea water in the world is to remove the salt.
Paper comes from trees. We use a lot of paper every day. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth. So how can we save paper? We can use both sides of every piece of paper, especially when we are making notes. We can choose drinks in bottles instead of those in paper packets. We can also use cotton handkerchiefs(手帕) and not paper ones. When we go shopping, we can use fewer paper bags. If the shop assistant does give us a paper bag, we can save it and reuse it later.

Saying no starts small
'All right then-just one more piece…' Words every girl has said when they are faced with the delicious cheesecake. Of course, many of us know we may eat the whole thing in the end.
It isn't just girls. Most of us find it hard to say 'no' to something attractive, However, scientists now say that willpower is very important to success and a happy life.
Scientists in different countries have been studying the effects of willpower on people's lives for a long time. The results are similar, according to an article on February 7 in the Guardian, a famous British newspaper.
In one experiment, scientists told young children that they could either have a marshmallow(圓形軟糖) now, or two marshmallows in 15 minutes. Waiting obviously needed more willpower. Scientists then continued studying the children as they grew up. They wanted to see if some children always had stronger willpower. They also wanted to see how having stronger willpower affected their lives.
Years later, scientists found that the children who had waited for two marshmallows were all healthier, happier and richer adults. Oppositely, the children who had shown weaker willpower at that young age were more likely to be in low-paid jobs, to be overweight, to have social problems.
But there is hope, Roy F Baumeister, an American social psychology(心理學) professor(教授) told the Guardian. Baumeister says we can train our willpower just like we train our muscles.  Even a little practice can strengthen our overall self-control if we do it regularly.
You could start by making yourself stand up straight, speaking in complete sentences, or using a computer mouse with the other hand. Scientists have found that people who manage to change little habits often perform much better in laboratory willpower tests.
Like muscles, willpower can 'get tired'. Don't try to do too many things at the same time, or when you don't have enough energy, for example when you are ill.  If you already feel tired, you can try to recharge(恢復) your willpower with a good night's sleep and by eating well.
小題1:The example of a girl eating cheesecake is used to_______.
A.prove that girls have weak willpower
B.introduce the topic of willpower to the readers
C.show that cheesecake is especially attractive to girls
D.show the connection between willpower and success
小題2:What can we infer from the experiment?
A.The scientists had already known the results before the experiment.
B.It showed that willpower is the most important to success and a happy life.
C.The children who chose to wait were more likely to be successful in their lives.
D.The children who chose only one marshmallow at first had stronger willpower.
小題3:Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the training of willpower?
A.You should have a goal every day.
B.Good rest and proper diet can help.
C.Willpower needs to be exercised regularly.
D.Keep willpower from being used too much.
小題4:What is the article mainly about?
A.How willpower and muscles are similar and how they can be trained.
B.How willpower affects people's lives and how it is similar to muscles.
C.How willpower is important to success and how we can make it stronger.
D.How willpower is connected with success and how they affect each other.
