He Junquan is a Chinese swimmer and has won many Paralympic(殘奧會) gold medals. Born in Jingmen, Hubei province, He Junquan was a healthy boy. But one day at the age of three, he climbed up to the high-voltage electricity(高壓線) box and lost both of his arms forever. He became a disabled boy!
From then on he learnt to do everything with his feet: writing, eating, getting dressed and taking things. Seeing other pupils swimming in the river, he jumped in, too. Without arms, he suffered a lot in the river at the beginning. But he finally learnt to balance himself in water and could swim much faster than the other pupils. Once he even saved a little boy who fell into the water and couldn’t swim. His father was so happy to see that this son had a talent in swimming.
In 1995, He Junquan became a real swimmer. He practices swimming for more than four hours every day. Since 1996, he has won more than twelve gold medals of the world class. At the 2008 Summer Paralympics, he won a silver medal. Reporting on the competition at the 2008 Games, Will Swanton of the Sydney Morning Herald wrote:
“The Water Cube has been a sight for sore(氣憤的) eyes. China’s He Junquan, with no arms, was leading the 50m backstroke(仰泳) final. … He came to the finish— and had to crash into the wall with his head. It was one of the hottest days of the dry season.  If we didn't see any rain soon, we would lose everything.
One day when I was in the kitchen, I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking towards the forest. He was clearly trying to be as still as possible.   Several minutes after, he had gone into the forest, he ran out again, towards. the house.  This activity went on for an hour, walking carefully to the forest and running back to the house.  I really wanted to know what Billy was doing.
Finally I followed him into the forest.  I found that he was holding a cup of water. He walked very carefully not to drop the water.
I saw a baby deer lying on the ground.  It lifted its head to drink the water in my son's cup.  After the deer drank up, Billy jumped up and ran back to the house to get more water.  When he saw me, he said, "I'm not wasting. " I found that his eyes were filled with tears.
“I know. " I watched the most beautiful heart working so hard to save another life.Tears ran down my face.  As my tear drops began to hit the ground, other drops and more drops and more suddenly joined them   I looked up at the sky.   It was raining.
Some people would say this was all just a huge coincidence  (巧合).   Those miracles(奇跡)  don't really exist (存在).  I would like to believe it was a miracle.   All I can say is that the rain that came that day saved our farm just like the actions of one little boy saved a life.

One morning it was shining brightly when I woke up. I looked at the alarm clock. It said 3:45! It had stopped! What time was it? I climbed out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen. The kitchen clock said 8:30—I was late! My parents were away. My aunt had gone to work without checking if I was up. The school bus went at 8:00. I had missed it. I rang my friend Tony on his mobile phone.
“Tell the teacher I’ll be in as soon as I can!” I said.
“Come on your rollerblades,” Tony said. “It will be faster than the bus.”
I washed and dressed in a hurry. I grabbed an apple to eat on the way. That was my breakfast! Then I put on my rollerblades and set off for school. It took half an hour to get to the school. I took all the shortcuts I knew. I went across the park — even through some backyards! When I got to school, I was very hot and my legs ached. I had missed math, our first lesson of the morning. One day, many years ago, when I was working as a psychologist(心理學家) in England, David was brought into my office. His face was pale(蒼白的)and he looked at his own feet.
David lost his father when he was two years old and lived with his mother and grandfather ever since. But the year before he turned 13, his grandfather died and his mother was killed in a car accident. His teacher told me that he refused to talk to others from then on.
