Two old men lived in a quiet street in Paris. They were friends and often went for walks together in the street when the weather was fine. Last Saturday they went for a walk by the river. There were many flowers everywhere and there were boats on the water. The two men walked happily for half an hour, and one of them said to the other,“That's a very beautiful girl.”“Where can you see a beautiful girl?”said the other.“I can't see one anywhere. I can see two young men. They're walking towards (朝著) us.”“The girl is walking behind us ,”said the first man quietly.“But how can you see her then?”asked his friend. The first man smiled and said,“I can't see her, but I can see the young men's eyes.”

Maybe there are many differences between going to school in Britain and going to school in your country. In Britain school starts between 8:30 and 9:00 and finishes at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. It is a long day but there are no lessons on Saturdays. Children usually have lunch at school. School meals are not very expensive and are quite good. But some children don't like them and bring sandwiches or go home.
In Britain school holidays are different from those in other countries. They are shorter at Christmas and Easter but much longer in the summer. The school year starts in the first week in September and ends in the third or fourth week of July.
Children start primary school when they are five years old; they stay there until they are eleven. Then they usually go to a secondary school. Children cannot leave. school before they are sixteen. At this age most students take public exams. Students who continue their studies go into the sixth form. If their school doesn't have a sixth form, they change schools or go to a college. Students need two years in the sixth form, and they take more public exams. In some parts of Britain, students go to middle school at the age of eight and then go to secondary schools when they are twelve or thirteen.

Prime Minister（總理）Abdul Krim of Tyrea has said that the danger（戰爭）in the Middle East（中東）is greater now than for the past two years. His country does not want war, he says, but the Tyrean people have waited too long for an end to the troubles with their neighbours. If war comes, says Mr King, Tyrea will be ready.
Ben Kitson, the writer of stories and plays for children, has died at his home in California. Mr Kitson was 82. His most famous book of stories, The Gentleman’s House, sells all over the world, in more than twenty-five languages.
Policeman in New York have stopped work. Their leader（領導）, Mr Paulo Angeli, says that they will return to work only when they receive more money for working long hours and doing what Mr Angel calls “the most dangerous job in the city.”
It has been a good year on the farm. The warm, wet spring, and the fine summer have been very good for all kinds of food plants. This means that fruit and vegetables will cost less in the shops this year.
