Aren't you just tired of being told what to do with your time?
Now you have a list to end all lists!
Take a look at the following two examples from the list of "101 things not to do":
     Swim with Dolphins (海豚)?
Swimming with dolphins is one of the world's most profitable tourist activities. However, every
dolphin will welcome having their busy ,tiring day interrupted by tourists screaming pushing around them
in the water. Worse yet, when dolphins get too near to the boats loaded with tourists, they could get
caught up in ropes and killed by propellers(螺旋槳).
Here's a little secret. Dolphins look like smiling at you, but actually they're just opening mouths.
Here's a little secret. Dolphins look like smilingat you, but actually ther're just opening their mouths.
Go to See the Mona Lisa?
There must be something about the mysterious (神秘的) smile. The 6 million people who visit the lady
in the Louvre every year can't all be wrong, after all. But they can be quite annoying, standing in front of
you, holding up their cameras to prevent you from seeing anything. In fact,it is hard for you to see the
painting clearly because you have to stay away from it for security reasons. After queuing for hours, many
tourists can remain in front of the painting only for 15 seconds at most.
If the mysterious lady in the picture knew her fate, she wouldn't just be smiling, she'd laughing.

How To Quit (Give Up) Smoking

  When thinking about quitting…

List all the reasons why you want to quit. Every night before going to bed, repeat one of the reasons 10 times.

Decide positively that you want to quit. Try to avoid negative (消極的) thoughts about how difficult it might be. Develop strong personal reasons in addition to your health and obligations (責任) to others. For example, think of all the time you waste taking cigarette breaks, rushing out to buy a pack, hunting a light, etc. Set a date for quitting—perhaps a special day like your birthday, a holiday. If you smoke heavily at work, quit during your vacation. Make the date sacred seriously, and don't let anything change it. Begin to condition yourself physically, start a modest(適度的)exercise; drink more water, get plenty of rest.

  Immediately after quitting…

The first few days after you quit, spend as much free time as possible in places where smoking is prohibited (forbidden), e.g. libraries, museums, theatres, department stores, etc.

Drink large quantities of water and fruit juice. Try to avoid wine, coffee, and other drinks which remind you of cigarette smoking.

Strike up a conversation with someone instead of a match for a cigarette.

If you miss the sensations (感覺) of having a cigarette in your hand, play with something else—a pencil, a pen, a ruler.

If you miss having something in your mouth, try toothpicks or a fake(仿制的) cigarette.

1.Which of the following statements is best supported by the author?

How to beat nerves

Do you blank out, freeze up(呆住)or feel so nervous in exams that you have trouble writing answers to questions that you knew just last night?

If so, you likely have a case of test anxiety.

But, don’t panic.By recognizing the problem, you are taking the first step towards overcoming it.

Believe it or not, a touch of nervousness can sharpen your mind, allowing you to perform more quickly. This is because under stress, the body releases the hormone adrenaline(腎上腺素), which prepares it for something important that will happen. However, too much anxiety can result in sleeplessness, loss of appetite before tests, and poor performance. Some people might feel shaky(weak), hot, or even sick.

If you worry a lot or are a perfectionist, you are more likely to have trouble with test anxiety. Those who have prepared poorly for a test or have had negative experiences taking tests may also experience test anxiety.

When you feel a storm of anxiety coming on, stop what you're doing and make your mind a blank. If possible, actually tell yourself to ‘STOP!’ This will get your mind off the stress. Then think of being at a place of comfort and let your body relax. As you continue the test, find questions you know the answers to and answer them first. This will help restore your confidence.

Talk to yourself using positive language.Make it a habit to replace each negative thought with a logical reason. For example:“I've studied hard and I know the material, so I’m ready to do the best I can.”Another thing you can do is to learn to accept mistakes. In fact, they can be valuable learning opportunities.

Last but not least, start test preparation early three to five days ahead of the quiz or test. After all, good study habits and skills.for example, time management and note-taking will give you the feeling that you are in control.

(1)

The main purpose of the passage is to ________.

[ ]

A.

tell you that worrying is no good

B.

show the ways to overcome test anxiety

C.

describe the effects caused by exams

D.

D.

[ ]

A.

the last but actually there are more

B.

the last in order and importance

How to Make the Most of Your Time

Time management is important in our daily life. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to accomplish all you need to do.Here are some tips that might be of some help to you.

1.Set up a plan.Go for a week at a time, and prioritize the most important ones.Include things you want to accomplish.Focus mostly on the things that are important to you.

2.Control your stress. No matter what kind of pressure mounts on you, try to keep cool.Stressing out can lead to an early breakdown, which is definitely counter-productive(事與愿違)when you have a list of things to do.It's easier to take a 10-minute break and cool off than work all week with built up stress.

3.Shut your door. When working under a schedule, perform your important tasks with your door shut to get them done. This will ensure a better quality time to get what needs to be done, done.

4.Focus on one thing at a time.Forget trying to multi-task!You will lose concentration, and it will take you longer to accomplish what you set out to do.

5.Just say“no.”If you are constantly interrupted, and you really don't have the time to help out, just say“no.”You're only one person, and you can't save the world by yourself!

6.Stop wasting time on the phone. While talking on the phone, keep your conversations short, and to the point and you'll waste much less time.

7.Be realistic. You can only do what you can do.Don't set out to accomplish the impossible.Do your best, but keep realistic expectations of yourself.

8.Relax.The most important thing is remember to take time to relax, and regroup. You need a break every now and then to keep working efficiently.Even if it's a 10-minute walk, get away from your list and get refreshed.

As families today get busier and busier, it's important to your own mental health to keep things on track.Don't delay; get your life in order now.

閱讀理解.
According to a recent survey on money and relationships,36% of people are keeping a
bank account from their partner. While this financial unfaithfulness may appear as distrust in
a relationship,in truth it may just be a form of financial protection. With almost half of all
marriages ending in divorce, men and women are realizing they need to be financially savvy,
regardless of whether they are in a relationship.
The financial hardship on individuals after a divorce can be extremely difficult, even more
so when children are involved. The lack of permanency in relationships, job and family life
may be the cause of a growing trend to keep a secret bank account hidden from a partner,
in other words,an"escape fund".
Margaret's story is far from unique. She is a representative of a growing number of
women in long-term relationships who are becoming protective of their own earnings.Every
month on pay day,she banks hundreds of dollars into a savings account she keeps from her
husband. She has been doing this throughout their six-year marriage and has built a nest egg
worth an incredible$100,000.Margaret says if her husband found about her secret savings
he'd be hurt and would take this as a sign that she wasn't sure of the marriage."He'd think it
was my escape fund so that financially I could afford to get out of the relationship if it went
wrong.I know you should approach marriage as being forever and I hope ours is,but you
can never be sure."
Like many of her fellow secret savers,Margaret was hurt in a former relationship and has
since been very guarded about her own money.
Coming clean to your partner about being a secret saver may not be all that bad.Take
Colleen for example, who had been saving secretly for a few years before she confessed to
her partner."I decided to open a savings account and start building a nest egg of my own.I
wanted to prove to myself that I could put money in the bank and leave it there for a rainy
day."
1. The trend to keep a secret bank account is growing because________.
A."escape fund" helps one through rainy days
B.days are getting harder and harder
C.women are money sensitive
D.financial conflicts often occur
2.The underlined word "savvy" in Paragraph 1 probably means________.
A.suspicious
B.secure
C.wise
D.simple
3.Which inference can we make about Margaret?
A.She is a unique woman.
B.She was once divorced.
C.She is going to retire.
D.She has many children.
4. The author mentions Colleen's example to show________.
A.any couple can avoid marriage conflicts
B.privacy within marriage should be respected
C.everyone can save a fortune with a happy marriage
D.financial disclosure is not necessarily bad
5. Which of the following is the best title of this passage?______.
A.Secret savers
B.Love is what it's worth
C.Banking honesty
D.Once bitten,twice shy
