Having a son as a woman who has only really been around women can be a strange experience. I sometimes tell my husband that raising our 3-year-old boy     someone dropped me off on another planet where I didn’t know the  _   and had no map.

My son makes me laugh like no other, but his desires and interests sometimes do feel as  _   to me as another galaxy(銀河系). He has taught me so much about the bigger man in my life (my husband) and even more about  _   in general.

When I get mad at my husband now, I look at our son and  _   . He was once as sweet and precious as my son, even if he is so  _   now.

My mother-in-law’s attitude used to be confusing to me, but now I kind of  _   it. I love my son violently. If some woman ever  _   him, she’d be punished for that.

_   my daughter can’t find something, she searches. But my son is  _   calling, “Mommy! Daddy! Where is my toy?” It’s so much like my husband. He will also spend 0.1 seconds  _   before calling out to me and  _   where the butter, cheese, or coat is. My son has taught me it’s a male thing. _   , that doesn’t mean I won’t break of it. I  _   will. Isn’t that what all moms say?

My husband showers every day on most  _   days. But on the weekends or on vacation? Forget it. Now I understand that. My son hates bath time and  _   the whole time. I have to fight with him and reward him to get  _   .

Nothing is sweeter for a mom than her baby boy. My son and daughter are equally _   to me, but in a different way. He tells me he loves me and how  _   I am. I wish I could bottle that sweetness and  _   it for the teen years.

A newly-published study has shown that loneliness can spread from one person to another, like a disease. Researchers used information from the Framingham Study, which began in 1948. The Framingham Study gathers information about physical and mental health, personal behavior and diet. At first, the study involved about 5,000 people in the American state of Massachusetts. Now, more than 12,000 individuals are taking part.
Information from the Framingham Study showed earlier that happiness can spread from person to person. So can behaviors like littering and the ability to stop smoking.
University of Chicago psychologist John Cacioppo led the recent study. He and other researchers attempted to show how often people felt lonely. They found that the feeling of loneliness spread through social groups.
Having a social connection with a lonely person increased the chances that another individual would feel lonely. In fact, a friend of a lonely person was 52% more likely to develop feelings of loneliness. A friend of that person was 25% more likely. The researchers say this shows that a person could indirectly be affected by someone’s loneliness.
The effect was strongest among friends. Neighbors were the second most affected group. The effect was weaker on husbands and wives, and brothers and sisters. The researchers also found that loneliness spread more easily among women than men.
The New York Times newspaper reports that, on average, people experience feelings of loneliness about 48 days a year. It also found that every additional friend can decrease loneliness by about five percent, or two and a half fewer lonely days.
Loneliness has been linked to health problems like depression and sleeping difficulties. The researchers believe that knowing the causes of loneliness could help in reducing it.
The study suggests that people can take steps to stop the spread of loneliness. They can do this by helping individuals they know who may be experiencing loneliness. The result can be helpful to the whole social group.

Empathy (共鳴)
Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped sharply over the past 10 years. __【小題1】__ Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs.
Jennifer Freed, a co-director of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV, and you’re showered with news and reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally treating one another with no respect. __【小題2】__
There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples. Humans are socially related by nature. __【小題3】__ Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high self-respect. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear.
Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact, Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers. __【小題4】__ “Academics are important. But if you don’t have emotional (情感的) intelligence, you won’t be as successful in work or in your love life,” she says.
What’s the best way to up your EQ (情商)? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others. __【小題5】__
To really develop empathy, you’d better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a “sharing circle” with your family, or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.
Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person.
That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.
“One doesn’t develop empathy by having a lot of opinions and doing a lot of  talking,” Freed says.
Humans learn by example—and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic.
Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else—both what they think and how they feel.
Good social skills—including empathy—are a kind of “emotional intelligence” that will help you succeed in many areas of life.
G.Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human—and having empathy is decisive to those relationships.

Chinese and Nigerian media should pay more attention to their own growing roles and strive to present a reliable image of China to African audiences and vice versa(反之亦然). Agreement on this important step in ongoing cooperation between the two sides was reached by media representatives attending a media forum on September 19 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The agreement comes in the wake of increasing attention being paid by the international community on Africa's deepening relationship with China. "This presents an important opportunity for media in China, Nigeria and other African countries. We should seize the moment to expand cooperation between Chinese and Nigeria media, increase our say, and contribute to cooperation between China, Nigeria and Africa as a whole," said Li Wufeng, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office at the China-Nigeria Media meeting.

The media meeting was jointly held by the State Council Information Office, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, and the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria. Some Western media outlets accuse China of ignoring mutually beneficial solutions or sustainable development of African people, while robbing the continent of its natural resources.

"Nigerians cannot expect Aljazeera or BBC to report on Africa, and indeed Nigeria and China relations, the way we want," said Oloja.

Mutually objective coverage will generate more cooperation and better understanding between China and Nigeria, said Li Xiaohua, a representative from China. org.cn, a leading multi-language website in China.
