In France, when a woman enters a cafe or restaurant, she is freely discussed, not only about her appearance but about her past and future as well．She invites looks in the street whether she is beautiful or plain．There is no better way for a woman to get back her self-confidence than a walk in the streets of Paris or Marseilles, and women really like that．
In Italy, people love talking．They sit about in cafes, exchanging news and discussing politics．They do not hesitate to ask questions about the family, income and private life of anybody who happens to be there．
The Swiss eat as a pastime．Ladies walk into a teashop, eat a couple of ice creams and a large piece of chocolate cake, and then leave, complaining about their weight．
For the Americans, the greatest fondness is said to be the push of buttons．You push a button in the lift, you push a button for cigarette, chewing gums, stamps, even for a life insurance．You can even push a button to get married and another button to get divorced．
In England, waiting in a line is national passion．The English will form a line whether they have the opportunities when the train is practically empty and everybody can have a seat．

AIDS is a medical condition caused by HIV, a virus which damages people's natural defenses against disease．So far, no cure has been found for it．
In the early mid-1980s, while other parts of the world were beginning to deal with the serious disease, Asia remained relatively unaffected by this newly discovered health problem．By the early 1990s, however, HIV and AIDS had hit several Asian countries, and by the end of that decade, HIV was spreading rapidly in many areas of the continent．Today, HIV and AIDS are a growing problem in every region of Asia．The latest statistics produced by UNAIDS suggest that in 2008, over 5 million people were living with HIV or AIDS in Asia．
Various factors cause the spread of HIV, including poverty, inequality, unequal status of women, cultural myths about sex and high levels of migration(移民)．Although it's useful to understand the situation of AIDS in Asia as a whole, each country in the region faces a different situation．In Cambodia and Thailand, there has been evidence of declines in HIV infection levels．In Indonesia, Pakistan and Vietnam, meanwhile, the number of people living with HIV has rapidly increased．In China, the number of people newly infected with HIV and AIDS is also rising, although at a much slower pace．
Much improvement is needed to prevent HIV and AIDS around Asia．New guidelines and policy documents have been continually issued over the years．Most of the successful programs do have at least three features in common．Firstly, these programs encourage HIV and AIDS education among the general population to teach people how to avoid infection and to face discrimination．Secondly, they are very practical and they involve the infected people themselves in program design and implementation(實(shí)施)．Last but not least, strong leadership is essential for HIV prevention．If all of the leaders truly committed themselves to this cause, then a great many lives would be saved．

Maybe you are an average student．You probably think you will never be a top student．This is not necessary so, however．Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to．Here’s how．
1)Plan your time carefully．When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do．After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time．First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc．then decide a good, regular time for studying．Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment．A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time．
2)Find a good place to study．Look around the house for a good study area．Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials．No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject．
3)Make good use of your time in class．Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say．Really listening in class means less work later．Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says．
4)Study regularly．When you get home from school, go over your notes．Review the important points that your teacher mentioned in class．If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer．
5)Develop a good attitude about tests．The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject．They help you remember your new knowledge．The world won’t end if you don't pass a test, so don't be overly worried．
There are other methods that might help you with your studying．You will probably discover many others after you have tried these．

Singing aloud, talking to a stranger, raising your hand：all may increase a feeling of happiness, according to a study from Wake Forest University．Participants(參與者)followed the development of their moods for two weeks and reported feeling happier when they were more outgoing and less happy when reserved or withdrawn．
The editors of forbes．Com gave ＄5 or ＄20 to 46 strangers by chance．Half the group was told to spend the money on themselves, while the other half was told to spend it on others．Those who'd shared the wealth felt much happier at the end of the day than those who'd spent it on themselves．There was no difference in happiness between those who spent ＄5 or ＄20, suggesting that it's not how much money you spend, but how you spend it, that inspires the spirit．
Studies from the Positive Psychology Center showed that discouraged people who wrote down three good things that happened to them each day for six months reported an improved attitude．
Drinking water really can help keep you cheerful．A small 2012 study from the University of Connecticut suggested that even slight dehydration(脫水)affected the moods of its female participants．

Making a public speech is most people’s least favorite thing. The reason is that we are all afraid of making fools of ourselves. The more important the speech is, the more frightened we become .But stop biting your finger-nails. Public speaking is easy. It’s just a simple talking, and you talk all the time. Although I’m basically shy (honest!), I’ve been making speeches and talking on radio and television for more than 30 years. Anybody who can talk can speak in public. Here are some of the lessons I have learned:
1. Keep your speech simple. Your audience will leave with one or two of your main ideas, that is to say, most people can remember one or two of your ideas well, one or two, not ten or twenty. So you should prepare one or two of your main ideas well. But if you can’t express what you want to get across, then your speech is not focused well enough. And if you don’t have a clear idea of what you want to say, there’s no way your audience will.
2. Organize your speech well. No matter how long or short your speech is, you have to organize your speech—how you are going to open or begin, what major points you want to make and how you’re going to close or end. Because a strong close is very important and critical(關(guān)鍵的): the last thing you say is what your audience will most likely remember. If not, they will be confused.
3. Keep your speech not long. The standard length of a speech is usually 12 minutes. Most people can’t focus their attention on one thing for too long time, which will make them tired and lose their interest. If you pay no attention to your audience’s reaction(反應(yīng))，the audience will get bored. Of course, your speech proves a failure.
Following these suggestions above, you can make a good speech in public, and you will be an excellent speaker, I think.
