Many students use the Internet, cell phones and other media devices to bully other students, and this type of bullying often gets very aggressive. One reason is that bullies can be anonymous (匿名的) and enlist other bullies to make their targets miserable.Another reason is that they don’t have to face their targets. So it’s easier to get rid of any empathy that they may otherwise feel. job. But now things have changed. For today's students, academic skills are important to students'
future success, but such skills are affected in the summertime. Many nations don't give kids an
Americanstyle summer vacation. They offer no more than seven consecutive( 連續的)weeks of vacation. Most American school districts offer up to thirteen weeks. To compete in the global marketplace,
Americans must be prepared to go up against international competitors.
Summer vacation also causes challenges for today's families. In the 1960s, more than 60% of
families had a stayathome Mom. Now, twothirds of American children live in households where every
adult works. For these families, summer vacation can be more burden than break. Someone must watch
the kids.
But the biggest problem may be how summer vacation hurts academic achievement. Researchers
have found that disadvantaged students lose significant ground in the summertime.
A longer school year does not have to be an invitation to hard boring work. Rather, it should allow
timepressed teachers to conduct richer and more imaginative lessons. Schools would have more time to
devote to athletics, languages, music and the arts. Summer vacation can be a grand thing. But in the 21st
century, it may also be outdated.

| There are two basic ways to see growth: one as a product, the other as a process. In order to grow, to travel new roads, people need to have a willingness to take risks, to face the unknown, and to accept the possibility that they may "fail" at first. How we see ourselves as we try a new way of being is necessary for our ability to grow. Do we see ourselves as quick and curious? If so, we tend to take more chances and be more open to unfamiliar experiences. Do we think we're shy and indecisive? Then our sense of fear can cause us to hesitate, to move slowly, and we think we are slow to adapt(適應) to changes or that we're not smart enough to deal with a new challenge. Then we are likely to take a more passive role or not try at all. These feelings of insecurity(不安全) and self-doubt are both unavoidable and necessary if we are to change and grow. If we protect ourselves too much, then we stop growing. We become trapped inside a shell of our own making. | ||||||
