Questions:
A. Do you think people should be decisive in the wild?
B. How to make hunting tools?
C. Do you think people should send an SOS while they are in danger?
D. How to make a fire in the wild?
E. How to set a trap to hunt animals?
F. How to build a shelter in the wild?
【小題1】______
Answer: If you are in a desert environment, try to build an underground shade shelter to avoid prolonged sun exposure, obviously only for hot climates. So you can be more comfortable in cooler temperatures to avoid sweating. If your environment is damp, use branches laid and criss-crossed on top of one another to create a solid and dry foundation for an open bed pad. Raise the foundation above ground level as much as possible.
【小題2】______
Answer: Yes, I think so. For example, if you think the best survival course of action is to look for help and civilization, don’t wait 4 or 5 days before you come to this conclusion. Take action on the 1st or 2nd day if possible while you still have strength and endurance working for you.
【小題3】______
Answer: Use dry wood and sticks to start your fire. Fire is started by using three kinds of wood: tinder, kindling, and fuel. Tinder is any kind of flammable wood shavings, usually light and wispy. You can take two pieces of dry wood, sharpen one of them and use it to drill into the other piece. Place any highly flammable objects you can find next to the drill bit. The moment the flammable object catches a spark, use a rock to swiftly tip the object onto a nest of leaves and little branches.
【小題4】______
Answer: Get an ordinary block of wood and hit it with a rock repeatedly until the wood sharpens. In this case, use the rock as your sharpener. You could also take a rock and break off some of the edges and then use another rock and some water like a wet stone and sharpen. In an ideal situation, obsidian stone would be used for its infamous sharpness.
【小題5】______
Answer: Use two more sticks to hold up a “teepee”, similar to your shelter. Place an item of your choice you think an animal will come after, if you’re lucky, the animal will be trapped. Dig a hole in the ground about 2m-3m deep and 1m-2m across. Take two thin branches and place them criss-crossed across the hole. Cover it with leaves and put something the animals like to eat. You can also put a few wooden spikes sharpened by your knife at the bottom. Don’t forget to build a ladder or you might not be able to climb out of the hole.

CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation (心肺復蘇). It forces air into the lungs and pumps(用泵抽) blood and oxygen to the brain in order to increase the chances that a person whose heart stops will survive. It increases the chances that he or she will suffer little or no brain damage.

The American Heart Association suggests two ways to perform CPR. One combines the use of hands to pump the victim’s chest with rescue breathing. The other method is called “Hands-Only CPR”, which is for people who are unwilling or unable to perform rescue breathing. Some people fear infection(感染). Others say they are afraid of making the patient worse.

But the American Heart Association strongly asks people in contact with a victim(受害者) to take action and tells how to take it. It says you can recognize a person needing CPR. He or she is unconscious(無意識) -- unable to communicate or react to surroundings or speech. His or her skin has lost color. The person is not breathing. If such conditions describe the situation, chances are the heart has stopped beating.

You should act by calling for help, or sending someone else. Even if you cannot do mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing, you can perform Hands-Only CPR. You can do chest compressions(壓迫) that help to keep blood flowing to the brain and the heart. To perform the compressions, place one hand over the other and press firmly on the center of the victim’s chest. Push down about five centimeters. Aim for one hundred compressions each minute.

Doctor Sayre suggests that medical workers do both the breathing method and chest compressions as usual. He says some victims, including babies, need the mouth-to-mouth breathing with the compressions. Still, the doctor says it is better to do just chest compressions than to do nothing.

Making an apology is not the same as making amends. Sometimes we apologize just because it’s the easiest thing to do. What’s actually important is to identify where we go wrong, take full responsibility for our mistakes and , if possible, try to make up for them.

A recent case involving Hewlett-Packed, the US computer giant, shows the importance of presenting a sincere apology. The Chinese consumers who had bought notebook computers of certain models, which have been put on Chinese market since 2007, suffered a massive flash screen failures and overheating problems. Through investigation, Chinese AQSIQ (國家質檢總局) identified these HP computers had quality problems and HP admitted this. HP made a proposal that they would extend the warranty (保修) period of such computers, but this could not satisfied the consumers. What they needed was a thorough description of the truth. HP has “sincerely” apologized. But the consumers remain angry, and say that only a product recall — as HP has done in the past — will prove that the apology is sincere.

Another apology that fell flat on its face was that of Thierry Henry, the famous French footballer. His deliberate handball in November 2009 created the goal which knocked Ireland out of the 2010 World Cup. The incident caused great anger in the football world, and eventually Henry issued an apology. Two days later, he wrote, “I’m not the referee…but if I hurt someone I’m sorry.” Better late than never, perhaps, but even then he passed the blame onto the referee!

Such high-profile cases, which attract a lot of publicity often under the spotlight, but similar incidents occur in our everyday lives. Stress caused by schoolwork and tiredness can sometimes result in outbursts of anger against friends and family. Have you ever lost your temper for minor reasons? After calming down, most people are quick to realize their mistake and apologize. But it’s just as important to identify what caused the error in the first place and take action to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

No one should hold a negative attitude to making a sincere apology. Empty words are easy to say, but they are as useless as they sound. A real show of remorse(痛悔;自責)demands hard work and commitment to put error right.

1.What does the author intend to tell us in the case of HP?

A.A true apology needs sincere actions.

B.HP should recall all the faulty computers.

C.Good quality makes a good company.

C.take the responsibility for apologizing to others

D.choose the easiest thing to do

3.We can infer from the case of Thierry Henry that _________ .

A.it’s never too late to say “I’m sorry.”

B.writing an apology is not a good idea

C.Henry didn’t identify his fault.

D.the football fans were mad with Henry.

4.Which of the following can best explain the word “commitment” in the last paragraph?

A.Decision.

B.Promise.

C.Agreement.

D.Responsibility.

5. What’s the best title of this passage?

A.What really puts things right

B.Don’t apologize easily
