The impression you make at the beginning of an interview is very important. Employers often decide to hire someone in the first three minutes of the interview. They judge you by your appearance, attitude(態度)and manners.

A friendly smile when you walk into the room is important. A smile shows a confident(自信的) and positive attitude.

When you introduce yourself, make eye contact with the interviewer. Some interviewers offer a handshake. Others don’t.

Try to be as natural as possible. But pay attention to your body language. The way you sit, walk, gesture, use your voice and show feelings on your face is all part of your body language. It makes the interviewer know how you feel about yourself and the situation you are in. Are you feeling positively about yourself?  Your abilities?  Your interest in the job?

Speak clearly and loudly enough. Show interest and enthusiasm in your voice. When you speak, look at the interviewer. Also, don’t say negative things about yourself, or former employer.

Listen to questions carefully. If you don’t understand a question, ask the interviewer to repeat or explain:

“I’m sorry, but I didn’t catch that.”

“I’m not sure exactly what you mean.”

Almost everyone is nervous in a job interview. Interviewers know that. They don’t expect you to be totally calm and relaxed. But they expect you to try to control your nervousness. They expect you to show confidence in your ability to do the job.

At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for her or his time.

It’s a good idea to send a short thank-you letter right after the interview, or deliver it by hand.

Phone the company if you have not heard anything after one week. Ask if they have made a decision about the job.

    Good luck!

It can be inferred from the passage that __ ____.

  A. you should always put on a smile when meeting the employer

  B. you should stand still with respect before the employer

  C. the first impression is very important in an interview

  D. employers understand and like employees’ nervousness

Why should we pay attention to our body language?

  A. Because it can help us win the employer’s positive impression.

  B. Because it can help us feel about the employer.

  C. Because it is needed by our employer.

  D. Because we need it to improve our feelings.

The main purpose of the passage is _ _____.

  A. to give you some advice on the art of finding a job

  B. to tell right from wrong about job interviews

  C. to explain why we should do something about an interview

  D. to suggest not being shy in an interview

Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

  A. A Friendly Smile               B. Making a Good Expression

  C. Don’t Be Nervous              D. Sending a Thank-You Letter

I’m trying to be a writer, but I can’t even start. What should I do?

Abraham, Nebraska

There are many ways to come up with ideas, one of which is to write down a list of your experiences, as well as things from your imagination. When you want to write, look in the notebook for ideas.

Books for writers often have good suggestions, too. One we like is Spilling Ink: A Yong Writer’s Handbook by Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter. Perhaps your library has it.

My classmates keep asking about a new movie I’ve seen. But I don’t want to spoil it for them. What should I do?

Corinne (by e-mail)

You could ask your classmates whether they are sure they want to know and if they insist, go ahead and tell them. You may be able to give them a general idea of the movie without revealing details of the ending.

I’m going to a soccer camp for youth, but I’m not sure if I’m good at soccer or if I’ll make friends.

Louise, New Hampshire

Soccer camp is for people who share an interest in the sport. No matter what a person’s ability is at the beginning, it’s likely that everyone will leave camp with improved skills.

Sharing a common interest may make conversations easier. Smile, be friendly, and have a sense of humor. Before long, you may find that you’ve made some good friends.

Someone invited me to a birthday party. When I got there, kids were doing stuff I’m not interested in, like watching scary movies. I told them my mom would pick me up, so I just left. Was I rude for doing that?

Sam (by e-mail)

You just did the right thing and that isn’t being rude.

We hope you’ll talk with your parents about this. They’re probably proud of what you did. They may have other suggestions for you, too. Talk about different situations that might come up and what would be the best way to handle (處理) them.

1.Who is interested in Spilling Ink: A Yong Writer’s Handbook?

A.Corinne.          B.Louise.            C.Abraham.          D.Sam.

2.What can we learn about the soccer camp?

A.The practice is hard but interesting.

B.It is difficult to make friends in the camp.

C.The camp only wants people who are new to soccer.

D.One’s skills can be improved when leaving the camp.

3.The answer to Sam’s question shows what Sam did is _____.

A.funny            B.strange           C.foolish            D.smart

4.According to the passage, you can make friends by the following means EXCEPT _________.

A.keeping smiling                         B.Being humorous

C.Changing your habits                     D.Being friendly to others

5.This purpose of the text is to _____.

A.give advice        B.tell stories         C.find friends        D.share interests

Dear Kind-Trustee-Who-Sends-Orphans-to-College,

Here I am! I traveled yesterday for four hours in a train. It’s a funny feeling, isn’t it? I never rode in one before.

College is the biggest, most puzzling place—I get lost whenever I leave my room. I will write you a description later when I'm feeling less confused; also I will tell you about my lessons. Classes don't begin until Monday morning, and this is Saturday night. But I wanted to write a letter first just to get acquainted.

It seems strange to be writing letters to somebody you don't know. It seems strange for me to be writing letters at all—I've never written more than three or four in my life, so please overlook it if these are not a model kind.

Before leaving yesterday morning, Mrs. Lippett and I had a very serious talk. She told me how to behave all the rest of my life, and especially how to behave towards the kind gentleman who is doing so much for me. I must take care to be very respectful.

But how can one be very respectful to a person who wishes to be called John Smith? Why couldn't you have picked out a name with a little personality? I might as well write letters to Dear Flagpole or Dear Clothes-line.

I have been thinking about you a great deal this summer; having somebody take an interest in me after all these years makes me feel as though I had found a sort of family. It seems as though I belonged to somebody now, and it's a very comfortable feeling. I must say, however, that when I think about you, my imagination has very little to work upon. There are just three things that I know: I, You are tall. Ⅱ. You are rich. Ⅲ. You hate girls.

I suppose I might call you Dear Mr. Girl-Hater. Only that's rather rude to me. Or Dear Mr. Rich-Man, but that's rude to you, as though money were the only important thing about you. Besides, being rich is such a very external quality. Maybe you won't stay rich all your life; lots of very clever men get broke in Wall Street. But at least you will stay tall all your life! So I've decided to call you Dear Daddy-Long-Legs. I hope you won't mind. It's just a private pet name we won't tell Mrs. Lippett.

The ten o'clock bell is going to ring in two minutes. Our day is divided into sections by bells. We eat and sleep and study by bells. It's very lifeful. There it goes! Lights out. Good night.

Observe how precisely I obey rules--due to my training in the John Grier Home.

Yours most respectfully,

Jerusha Abbott

to Mr. Daddy-Long-Legs Smith

1.Jerusha felt “confused” because ______.

A.she had never written to the trustee before

2.Jerusha thought that she couldn’t be very respectful to “John Smith” because _______.

A.he was a total stranger to her

B.she was sure it was a false identity

C.the name was too common

D.nobody would like to be called that name

3.The fact that her day is “divided into sections by bells” makes Jerusha feel______.

A.busy             B.restricted by rules   C.pressed for time    D.full of energy

4.Jerusha decided to call the trustee Dear Daddy-Long-legs______.

A.in order to show her respect for him

科目:高中英語 來源:2012年北師大版高中英語必修一Module8Unit22練習卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

My Uncle Dave posed an interesting question to my wife and me when he came to visit us the other day. He asked: “What do you think the world will be like in 50 or 100 years, in terms of technology and society and so on?”

He says he asks many of the people he meets this question to see what their thoughts are. His point is that no one really knows. I mean, in 1945, could people have even imagined surfing the net or sending e-mails as we do? No way. And the pace of technological innovation(創新) is incredible (難以置信的). We’re on a more different curve than we used to be.

One thing I’m looking forward to is real software agents. There is so much information out there, but I want something that can help me find what I really want. For instance, in about ten years, I think, there will be no longer recorded music, and there will be some big databases from which you can download music onto your hard drive or whatever. At that point, there will be so much music to choose from and you’ll be able to sample things before you buy them. But the question will be how I find what I’m looking for and how I do find the music that might interest me. Or more generally, how do I find information that I want without spending all the time myself surfing the net? How do I find people who are like-minded (具有相似目的), with whom I might really want to communicate? I want to find those people but it’s hard to do. In the future I think that one will be able to build a community of like-minded people who live all over the globe. It’s going to be very interesting, I think.

1.No one really knows what the future will be like because _____.

A.there is too much information for us to choose from

B.technological development is too fast

C.people live in different countries

D.no one is intelligent enough to answer such a question

2.The function of the first paragraph is to _____.

A.explain the question given in this paragraph

B.put forward the topic in this passage

C.show Dave is a foolish man to ask such a question

D.describe a picture about what the future will be like

3.The writer is looking forward to some real software agents so as to _____.

A.earn a lot of money

B.communicate with some like-minded people

C.help find the correct information needed

D.spare some time for surfing the Internet

4.The best title of this passage should be _____.

A.What the Future Will Be Like

B.Listen to Music Through the Internet

C.Music and Software Development

D.How to Live a Happy Life in the Future
