It’s not easy growing up. Growing up can be a real “pain” for some of us. Sometimes we feel trapped, sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don’t understand why we can’t stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the hardships in life with a positive attitude and learn from them. We must overcome every obstacle one small step at a time. We should realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!

Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these obstacles keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome every obstacle one small step at a time.

As a young girl, my parents forced me to do so many things that I didn’t like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched(豐富) my life in so many ways. I now realize that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life than they did themselves.

We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. They might seem so huge at the time, but we must be strong. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps(碰撞) on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!

1.The underlined word “obstacles” (in Paragraph 2) roughly means things that ______.

A. are related to your studies

B. you easily achieve

C. make you happy

D. make it difficult for you to do something

2.How does the author now feel when remembering what her parents did for her in the past?

A. She is fearful                 B. She is grateful

C. She feels trapped              D. She feels hateful

3.We can know from the last paragraph that _____________.

A. life without challenges is dull

B. life needs no pains but sunshine and happiness

C. we should give up faced with challenges as the future is ours

D. we shouldn’t easily pay a little hard work in growing up

4.The purpose of the passage is to tell readers____________.

A. life is full of hardships

B. growing pains can turn into growing gains in a positive way

C. everyone is painful in growing up

D. everyone should do what they don’t like when young

【答案】

1.D

2.B

3.A

4.B

【解析】文章主要是告訴我們不要懼怕成長的煩惱,只要有正確的態度,成長的煩惱完全可以成為成長的收獲。

2.B 推理題。根據第3段I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched(豐富) my life in so many ways. I now realize that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life than they did themselves.可知我對父母充滿了感激。

3.A 細節題。根據最后一段2,3行. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless.可知他認為沒有挑戰的生活的乏味的。

4.B 主旨大意題。文章主要是告訴我們不要懼怕成長的煩惱,只要有正確的態度,成長的煩惱完全可以成為成長的收獲,故B正確。

No fight can end, and no friendship can move on, until everyone says these little words: I’m sorry. Sometimes, though, they can be difficult to say. __【小題1】
It’s not about winning.
Friendships aren’t like the Super Bowl, and there should never be a winner and a loser. When you start fighting with a friend, it may feel important that you “win” the fight by proving you’re right and he is wrong, or by making him be the first to apologize.
In reality, you’ll BOTH LOSE if you let your fight ruin your friendship, and you will BOTH WIN if you find a way to heal it.
__【小題2】__
You may have heard the expression “His pride stood in the way.” It is usual used to describe a person who is determined to be “right” that he lets an opportunity for happiness pass him by forever. __【小題3】_ Remember: as time goes on, we usually forget who was right and who was wrong in a disagreement, and only remember the sadness of losing a friend.
Take the first step.
Are you sick of fighting? Do you think this fight is just not important enough to ruin your friendship?
【小題4】__ You don’t have to take full responsibility(責任)for starting the fight, or even say that your feelings were wrong. But you should find something you did or said that’s worth apologizing for. Maybe you’re sorry that you let the fight go for so long, or that you overreacted(反應過度)to something your friend did. If you say you’re sorry, it’s like an invitation for your friend to do the same.___【小題5】__

A.Then try to be the first to apologize.
B.Stop thinking about your pride.
C.It’s about taking some responsibility for the argument.
D.Don’t let this happen to a friendship you care about.
E.  Here are some things to keep in mind.
F.  There are some special cases when you shouldn’t be the one to apologize first.
G.  Once you’ve both said it, you’ll both feel a million times better.

A

This week in our Foreign Student Series,we talk about getting an American education online.A student named Hendra has written to us from Indonesia asking about a good online university.Finding the right online program requires research.Talking to advisers and recruiters(招募者)can help.Keep in mind, though, that they might have a financial interest to direct you to certain programs.

The Council on Higher Education Accreditation(CHEA)recognizes a group in Washington,D.C.,to accredit(授權)schools that offer distance learning. One hundred and ten programs in the United States and six other countries are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council.

We asked the executive director,Michael Lambert, for advice on choosing a distance learning program. He says the first thing is to go on the CHEA Web site to find if a school is accredited. The address is c-h-e-a dot o-r-g.Next,make sure the school offers what you need.Do you need a degree,or will a certificate or license be enough?

Another consideration is cost.Often the published price does not include all the costs --like books.Technology requirements can also add to the costs. Will you need to get new software or a high-speed Internet connection or even a new computer to take the classes you want?

Also, consider the level of interaction that an online program offers. You might never meet the teacher or other students in person.

Finally, and this is our own advice, find out what others say on the Internet for comments or news stories about schools that interest you.Just remember that what people say is not always fair or true.

A.The cost for books and technology requirements.

B.The cost for books and a new computer.

C.The cost for new software and a high-speed Internet connection.

59.How can you find the information about schools accredited to offer distance learning easily?

A.Ask the members of CHEA.        B.Go on the website of chea.org.

C.Ask Michael Lambert for help.      D.Talk to advisers and recruiters.
