Weather changes when the temperature and the amount of water in the atmosphere change. We can see and feel water coming from the atmosphere when we have rain. But the water must somehow get back to the atmosphere. Meteorologists call this the water cycle.

There are many stages in the water cycle. Rain falls when water vapor in clouds condenses(凝結). Drops of water form and fall to the ground. The water soaks into the ground and feeds streams and rivers. A lot of rain falls into the sea. The heat of the sun evaporates some of the water in the ground and in the rivers, lakes, and the sea. It changes the liquid water into water vapour. The vapour rises onto the air. Water vapour is normally invisible. On a very damp or humid day, however, you can sometimes see water vapour rising from a puddle(水坑) or pond in a mist(薄霧) above the water. Water vapour also gets into the air from living things. Trees and other plants take in water through their roots and give off water vapour from their leaves. People and land animals drink water and breathe out water vapour. In all these ways the water returns to the air. There it gathers to form clouds and condenses to form rain. The rain falls to earth, and the cycle starts again. It continues even if snow or hail(冰雹) fall instead because both eventually melt to form water. The amount of water vapour in the air depends on the temperature. The air is more moist(潮濕) in the tropics(熱帶) than in the cold polar regions.

What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Water cycle.

B. Water vapour.

C. How rain forms.

D. Water, vapour, rain.

How many ways of the water returning to the air are discussed in the text?

A. Two.                   B. Three.        C. Four.       D. Five.

Whether water vapour can be seen or not depends on _______.

A. how much water is evaporated

B. how good your eyes are

C. in which way water is evaporated

D. climate or weather

From the passage we get to know _______.

A. there is more water vapour in the air in the tropics than in cold polar regions

B. there is more water vapour in the air in cold polar region than in the tropics

C. it gets more rain in the tropics than in cold polar regions because there is less vapour

D. the amount of water vapour in the air depends on how often it rains

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, “Mum, you must come and see the daffodils (水仙花)before they are over.” I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Lake Arrowhead. “I will go next Tuesday,” I promised, a little unwillingly, on her third call.
The next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and so I drove there. When I finally walked into Carolyn’s house and hugged and greeted my grandchildren, I said, “Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible (看不見的)in the cloud and fog, and there is nothing in the world except you and these children that I want to see!”
My daughter smiled calmly and said, “We drive in this weather all the time, Mum. You will never forgive yourself if you miss this experience.”
After about twenty minutes, we turned onto a small road and I saw a small church. On the far side of the church, I saw a hand-lettered sign that read “Daffodil Garden”.
We got out of the car and each took a child’s hand, and I followed Carolyn down the path. Then, we turned a corner of the path, and I looked up and gasped. Before me lay the most beautiful sight! There were five acres of flowers! “But who has done this?” I asked Carolyn. “It’s just one woman,” Carolyn answered. “That’s her home,” Carolyn pointed to a well-kept A-frame house that looked small and modest in the midst of all that glory. We walked up to the house. On the patio (庭院), we saw a poster. “Answers to the Questions I Know You Are Asking” was the headline.
The first answer was a simple one. “50,000 bulbs (鱗莖),” it read. The second answer was, “One at a time, by one woman.” The third answer was, “Began in 1958.”
I thought of this woman whom I had never met, who, more than fifty years before, had begun -- one bulb at a time -- to bring the beauty and joy to the mountain top.
【小題1】The author didn’t go to see the daffodils at first because _________.

A.she was not interested in them
B.they were growing on the mountain top
C.the weather was not good enough
D.it was not easy for her to drive there
【小題2】What do we know about the woman living in the A-frame house?
A.She must be out of mind.
B.She acted as a gardener there.
C.It took her great determination to grow the daffodils.
D.She was poor and made her living by selling daffodils.
【小題3】What could the author probably learn from this experience?
A.Nothing is too difficult if you put your heart into it.
B.We must put the interests of others above our own.
C.We can change the world by growing flowers.
D.It’s never too late to learn.
【小題4】 What would be the best title for the passage?
A.An Unforgettable Experience.B.Beautiful Daffodils.
C.One Bulb at a Time.D.I Love Daffodils.

Since China has become a member of WTO, the price of cars has been going down. More and more families have got or are thinking of buying cars. There are advantages and disadvantages of this. Automobile industry will develop with growing demand of cars. This will provide more job opportunities. More people will be employed in the car repairing. There will be more gas stations, too. And travel is made more convenient than before.

But the building of new roads takes a much longer time than the development of car industry. And many more cars require a much larger parking space. With more cars on the road the problem of air pollution will become even more serious. So I think people will have to think of a way to solve these problems before everything  gets out of control.
