As we all know, being successful is closely tied to what your attitude is.Today we are going to look at four common beliefs/attitudes held by many that may affect their being successful in many aspects of their lives.

1.Being Lucky

It is all too often people consider the good fortune of others as being the result of pure luck. What a copout! By having the mindset(思維定勢(shì)) that luck is something that randomly falls out of the sky, many people put limits on themselves as to what they could have accomplished.

2.Associating Displeasure with Work or Study

Think about how you can perform well in an environment that is boring or unappealing to you.To most failures, I assume your failure is mainly because your heart is not into it and your attitude therefore does not allow you to be at your most productive.

3.__________________________________

A commonly accepted belief is:to be successful you MUST devote many hours along with many years. As a matter of fact, long hours and hard work doesn’t necessarily mean success. After all, success depends on many factors.

4.Self Imposed Limitations

Many have grown to believe they can not achieve success due to a variety of reasons. In fact it often seems they put more effort into producing reasons as to why they can not succeed than efforts leading to success.

The only limitations we face in our lives are the ones we place upon ourselves. If you are not willing to remove some of these limitations and at least try, you would be content with what you have in life and never possess success.

The young have been described as troublemakers. They make adults feel unsafe to walk the streets and are generally out of control, according to those who took part in a recent survey in Britain.

Yet the same report says thousands take part in community work and carry out charity(慈善) work. The British newspaper The Sunday Sun thought it was time to give youngsters a chance to have their say.

They set up a special survey—Demons(魔鬼) or Darlings? — to ask a series of questions. For example, if they had clashed(沖突) with important figures, how they spend their spare time, and how they feel towards adults.

About 84.2 percent believe adults have become less tolerant(寬容的) towards young people. They describe adults as “judgmental”. More than half of the young participants(參與者) appear to have been treated unfairly.

Meghan Bentley, 16, and 17-year-old Chelsea Laver-Seeley said they had had enough of the public’s understanding of teenagers as troublemakers.

“We are not all like that,” Bentley said. “It’s very stereotypical(有成見的). We don’t all hang around street corners.”

Both Bentley and Laver-Seeley are students at Mount Grace School, Hertfordshire. They help younger students with their studies and go into primary schools and read to children.

Why did teenagers get the reputation(名聲) they have? Bentley said she thought the media’s fixation(思維定勢(shì)) with youths and gang culture was having a bad effect on young people.

“Kids watch a lot of TV and they look up to the people they see there,” she said. “Some think it’s cool to carry knives. They think that’s what’s right.

“If they knew what was available to them and what they could get involved in, there would be more choice for them,” Bentley said.

She added: “Give us a bit of praise every now and then, to show people the good stuff teenagers are doing. It’s about time we got some recognition for what we do.

64. From the passage, what do we know about the British teenagers?

 A. They are troublemakers.

B.They are sure about what they could get involved in.

C..Most of them think adults have a wrong understanding of them.

D.They are all very kind and helpful.

65. In the passage, the underlined word "judgmental" is closest in meaning to "_____".

   A. critical       B. tolerant        C. positive        D. fair

66. According to Bentley, why did teenagers get the reputation as troublemakers?

   A. They all hang around street corners.

   B. Because of the media’s influence and bad effect of gang culture.

   C. Because adults treat them unfairly.

   D. They watch a lot of TV.

67. The writer wrote this passage to              .

   A. give youngsters a chance to have their say

   B. report a special survey set up by The Sunday Sun

   C. criticize adults’ unfairness

   D. advise adults to give teenagers more praise and tolerance
